Missions Network

"Alternate Giving" gift certificates

This is a charitable shopping opportunity where gifts can be purchased without excess advertising, wasteful packaging or concern about suitability. By offering this, we hope to bring awareness and provide financial support to various mission/ outreach projects at St. Paul’s. Honor family and friends with a gift in support of our projects this holiday season.

HOLIDAY BASKETS

The Holiday Basket program at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church works hand in hand with Portage County Human Services.  We receive our referrals from them and minister to approximately 75 families with 140 children per year.  In order to provide food and gifts for these families, we need to budget $13,000.  Your gift will help purchase essential groceries and special items for a holiday meal; personal hygiene necessities; or Christmas presents such as a warm winter jacket, gloves or a toy for a child.  Your support of this hands-on, intergenerational ministry, enables us to reach out into the community.

UNITED METHODIST COMMITTEE ON RELIEF – UMCOR

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church.  UMCOR is working in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States.  Your gift will be used for programs that address hunger, poverty, sustainable agriculture, international and domestic emergencies, refugee and immigrant concerns, and global health issues.  Our mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people.

SECOND HARVEST FOOD PANTRY

Second Harvest is a community based food pantry for all residents of Portage County.  We are located at

2820 Post Road in Plover.  Our doors first opened in 2000 serving ten families.  In 2008 we served 459 families for a total of 6291 people.  With the struggling economy we are seeing numbers about 20% higher than last year.  Your gift will remain here in our community and provide struggling families with needed food and hope for a better tomorrow.

PROJECT FRESH CLOTHES

Project Fresh Clothes is a mission outreach project in our Stevens Point community.  We collect, sort, clean and distribute school clothing to community children in need.  This past year over 10,000 articles of clothing were collected and distributed to over 900 school age children.  Your gift will help purchase the necessary clothing to make this program successful. “Many hearts of children and adults were opened due to this project being carried on for another year. It truly is a project of putting a smile on children's faces.”
