Howard's Weekly Message

Rev. Howard Hintzman-The Weekly Message

November 9, 2009

Get a hold of this one.  I went to have my cereal Friday morning – it was Raisin Bran, next time it might be Wheaties or Cheerios - put it in the bowl, sat the bowl on the counter by the fridge, promptly reached into the fridge, grabbed the jug of milk and poured it on my cereal.  The only problem was, that overnight the milk had changed to orange juice.   One of those times where I knew I was grabbing the orange juice to pour it into the glass next to the bowl of cereal, but lost concentration and it went onto the cereal.  Not to be defeated by this, I was determined to eat the cereal anyway – why waste two things I like, even if they were inadvertently combined.  My  mother would eat anything and one time we were having hamburgers and there was a jar of grape jelly on the table also and to finish the dab in it, she put it on her hamburger.   She may have eaten hers, but after many attempts to enjoy the cereal doused with orange juice, even after having put the bowl to my mouth and having drunk the orange juice, I decided I just couldn’t do it.  So, the cereal went the way of any bad food combination, down the garbage disposal.  God may have made all life good – orange juice and cereal both, but it doesn’t mean all things in life are supposed to be in the same bowl with each other.

Till next week….H
