Howard's Weekly Message

Rev. Howard Hintzman-The Weekly Message

October 19, 2009

It is a wonder my mother ever let me out of the house alone, and now Julie the same.   On Saturday, we were in Wausau having gone on an errand.   We were at the Rib Mountain ramp, getting ready to merge onto Hwy 39.  The ramp has two lanes and I was in the right one trying to get over to the left when I heard this noise which leaves one not wondering what it is.  Sure enough, there it was, and unmarked patrol car with its lights having a spastic attack of color.  Nothing like that sound and sight, is there?    Thank goodness, as far as I know, no one I knew went by while I was encountering the patrolman.  (Unlike Charlie Crandall one Sunday morning on his way to worship when we both lived in Oregon.  I won’t give any details, as I wasn’t an eye witness, but I heard that a police officer decided to stop him for a particular reason-which I won’t say and all the choir members went by, driving the speed limit, on their way to worship.  But remember, I didn’t say anything).

So, as a dutiful villain I pulled over trying to figure out what heinous traffic crime I had committed.  I knew it couldn’t be speed as I was going a whole 30 mph.   So, the officer walks up to the  car and says, “I stopped you because of the ’10 sticker on your car which you shouldn’t have, as the month on the plate is December.  (took me a long time to figure out what he was talking about).  Anyway, turns out I had license plates on the car which had been invalid since 2007.   The plates which were supposed to be on the car were of a completely different number.  Well, it turns out that we had done a change in ownership of the car with our son, and in the hub-bub I had the wrong plates on.   The officer was patient and understood, I think, or at least had mercy on this poor lost soul and suggested I check with my son (who of course is in Colorado at the moment) to see if he had the plates I was supposed to have.  I did not get a ticket – just told to get it taken care of by this coming Saturday.   So, we got to thinking that maybe they were at our cottage.   Any old license plates we have are nailed to the cross pieces in the ceiling.  Our daughter happened to be there so we asked her to check – and sure enough they are there with a nail hole through the middle of them.  Now, she needs to put them in the mail immediately so I can go and get a new little ’10 sticker for it.  Oh brother!!!!!!!!!!!!   Only I could make this happen.

Doesn’t it say in scripture somewhere that God cares for fools or something like that .  God is very busy with me so probably no time for you, thus you are on your own.

Till next week, if I remember to change weeks…H
